Just read a review of a new book called ‘happiness by design’, which the author, an economist and behavioural scientist, says is ‘based on science’. Don’t know about you but I’d rather take happiness advice based on thousands of years of spiritual seeking, than from a laboratory experiment. The author also says it’s the little day to day things that make you happy, hmm I’d say it was the BIG things, the knowledge of who you are and what you are here for. In Chinese medicine (based on thousands of years of Daoist thought) the idea is to live in a way that keeps your organs happy (nourished and connected to the cosmic chi matrix) then they will keep you happy. Happiness is specifically connected to your Liver (anyone who has smoked a joint and laughed and laughed has felt this Liver function). In fact the Liver plays such an important role, I think I’ll write a happiness book called The Liver Chuckling Diet (and no it won’t have marijuana in it).
