The main aspect of this pattern is that the kidneys are too weak to receive chi from the lungs, and to hold it down. Chi accumulates in the chest causing an excess in the chest and a deficiency in the kidneys. Kidneys control inhalation and lungs control exhalation, so there is difficulty in inhalation. This pattern is caused by excessive physical exercise; excessive lifting and standing, or as a result of chronic disease which has reached the kidneys. Hard drug addiction and a lifestyle that burns the candle at both ends, can also cause this pattern.
Symptoms:
Shortness of breath during exertion, rapid and weak breathing, difficulty inhaling, cough, asthma, clear urination during asthma attack, sweating, cold limbs after sweating, swelling of the face, thin body, mental listlessness, sore back.
