The level of heaviness people experience now is off the charts. They feel exhausted and overwhelmed by things they would previously have handled. Their emotions are right at the surface, and there’s an increasing sense of having reached some kind of limit.
One of the things I keep hearing in my sessions is, “I don’t want to do this anymore.” And it’s a global phenomenon. International research shows that worry, stress and negative emotions are at historically elevated levels. This is contributing to uncertainty, divisions and the social and political upheavals spreading around the world.
A term increasingly appearing in conversations about this experience is: ambient pressure. In spiritual discussions, ambient pressure describes a perceived pervasive background intensity that people associate with emotional upheaval, changes in consciousness and the wider cosmic environment
Psychology has used the term ambient stress since the 80s to describe persistent background pressures in our environment, such as pollution or traffic noise, that affect us without us being fully conscious of them.
Ambient pressure goes beyond this, it is almost a physical weight. In the spiritual context it is metaphysical and physical. It arises from changes on a cosmic level that we are mostly not consciously aware of.
Are cosmic forces affecting us?
Our bodies respond to the natural environment, that’s a fact. Sunlight regulates our body clock, seasonal changes affect our biological rhythms, and our nervous systems are constantly responding to signals from the world around us.
But there are also forces impacting us that we can’t see. We live in a dynamic electromagnetic environment. The earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that is continually interacting with activity from the Sun. Solar flares and eruptions of charged particles can disturb that field, creating geomagnetic storms.
And there’s been plenty of that activity lately. We’re currently in Solar Cycle 25 (part of the Sun’s cycle of rising and falling activity) and the Sun is in its solar maximum period, bringing increased solar flares and geomagnetic disturbances.
The emerging field of heliobiology, which investigates how solar and geomagnetic activity influences living organisms (including us) is associating geomagnetic disturbances and changes in heart rhythms, cardiovascular activity and the autonomic nervous system, which regulates many of the body’s automatic functions.
The Schumann Resonance
Earth also has a natural electromagnetic resonance known as the Schumann resonance, often described as its heartbeat. Its fundamental frequency is around 7.83 Hz, but its intensity fluctuates with atmospheric conditions and solar activity and there have been changes in that recently too. Interestingly, some Schumann resonance frequencies overlap with those measured in human brainwave activity.
Pressure is necessary for change
From the awakening perspective, ambient pressure and shifting frequencies are acting as a catalyst for collective transformation by exposing or releasing the patterns that prevent us from moving into a higher state of consciousness.
In Bodywork, the energetic modality I originally trained in, emotional traumas cause energy to stagnate in a dense or crystallised form. Applying pressure releases this. Painful emotions, fears and conditioning then come to the surface and can be freed.
The mechanism is the piezoelectric property of crystals – they release energy in response to pressure. Maybe this ambient pressure, that so many people are feeling whether they are into the spiritual narrative or not, is having a similar effect? Something is increasing emotional reactivity and leading to more and more people ‘losing it’
I think we need to take this as an opportunity to acknowledge and address emotional stagnation, so that going forward it no longer holds us down. This is a key to be able to shift from 3D to 5D consciousness.
3D keeps us imprisoned by survival, fear, separation, competition and conditioned reactions. 5D is a higher state of consciousness, characterised by interconnectedness, expanded awareness and oneness.
How do we turn pressure into power?
We are living within a constantly changing field of forces, so we need to develop the capacity to work with change.
This is something I’ve been exploring for decades, drawing on ancient Taoist practices and developing contemporary methods for working beneficially with the forces that shape our lives.
One of the most important principles is that resistance reveals our conditioning. When something challenges us, our automatic reactions show us where we’re still operating from.
Think about what you do when someone criticises you, challenges your beliefs or tries to control you. You might might get angry, defensive, fearful or withdraw. But if you can recognise that reaction before acting on it, you have an opportunity to respond differently.
This is the basis of a practice I teach called Read, Hold, Convert. Learn to recognise the force behind an emotional reaction, hold it without immediately acting on it, and gradually redirect that energy into a more constructive response.
It draws on the Bagua, an ancient system of eight fundamental forces of change, and the principles of Tai Chi, where you learn to work with an opposing force rather than meet it with more resistance.
I’ve also developed the Chi Cycle Lifestyle, which aligns the body with cosmic rhythms so you naturally flow with forces rather than against them. It’s a daily 5D accelerator that only requires a clock!
I explore all of this material in much more depth in my webinar The Grit of the Mystic, including how to recognise the forces behind our reactions and use resistance as part of the process of transformation. The recording is available to watch at your own pace.
FAQs
What is ambient pressure in spiritual awakening?
Ambient pressure is a term used in some spiritual discussions to describe a feeling of collective intensity or heaviness, sometimes interpreted as part of a wider shift in consciousness.
Can solar flares and geomagnetic storms affect humans?
Researchers are investigating possible connections between geomagnetic activity and biological functions, including heart rhythms and nervous-system regulation. The evidence remains mixed, and a direct connection with spiritual awakening has not been established.
What does shifting from 3D to 5D consciousness mean?
In contemporary spiritual language, 3D describes consciousness shaped by fear, separation and conditioned reactions. 5D refers to a more expanded awareness characterised by higher frequencies, interconnectedness, unity and love.
