THE PROTEIN SHAKE DEBATE!

I reckon high quality protein powder is a crucial addition to everyone’s diet these days, especially vegans or vegetarians. Lack of protein can cause mental and emotional imbalances and issues.

Protein shakes have become a popular way of getting protein but based on my decades of research into Chinese medicine and fitness and health, shakes are ‘cold’ in nature and your body doesn’t assimilate the protein properly.

Protein production is connected with your spleen function and spleen needs ‘warm’ cooked food. So my advice is to add protein powder to your meals instead of having protein shakes. That way your body will accept the protein powder as food which ensures good assimilation.

Instead of shakes I add high quality sprouted brown rice protein powder to my porridge. I soak 30 grams of protein powder with organic oats, raw ginger and seeds (poppy, sunflower, black sesame) overnight and then slow cook it for 20 – 30 minutes after my morning exercise.

From a Chinese medicine angle this delivers what your body needs to build healthy muscles and that, in turn, supports your emotional stability and accelerates fat burning. Perfect for more energy, better moods and weight loss. Get your protein intake right and you’re on your way to living healthily ever after.
