This pattern is affiliated with diabetes mellitus, chronic gastritis and gastritis neurosis. It is caused by irregular eating habits: eating late, skipping meals, having a sandwich for lunch while rushing around; eating while working; stressful business lunches; worrying while eating, and going straight back to work immediately after a meal. These behaviours weaken stomach yin, especially eating late at night, which leads to a drying of fluids in the stomach causing dry stools, dry mouth and throat, thirst, and hunger but with no desire to eat.
Symptoms:
No appetite, fever or feeling of heat in the afternoon, constipation, epigastric pain, dry mouth and throat especially in the afternoon, thirst but no desire to drink, only want to drink in small sips; feeling of fullness after eating.
